The Top 5 First Aid Tips & Tricks

First aid tip 1:

Direct pressure stops bleeding

Serious bleeding from a major blood vessel is a life-threatening emergency.

The best way to stop severe bleeding to apply firm, direct pressure directly over the bleeding wound.

First aid tip 2:

Anyone can use a defibrillator

Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) deliver an electrical shock to help victims of Sudden Cardiac Arrest. A cardiac arrest occurs when the heart stops beating due to a problem with the electrical activity.

AEDs can be found in many public places – shops, railway stations, airports, gyms, schools, colleges etc.

An AED is designed to be used by anyone! They are fully automated and have voice prompts to help bystanders use the device.

First aid tip 3:

Nosebleeds – forwards not back!

The best way to stop a nosebleed is to pinch the soft part of the nose for a minimum of 10 minutes and learn forwards not back!

First aid tip 4:

Water for burns

Cooling a burn quickly is vital to prevent further damage to tissue. The best way to cool a burn is running water! Putting anything else on a burn (such as butter, toothpaste etc.) will not be as effective in removing heat and stopping the burning process.

First aid tip 5:

Chest compressions rule

The most important component of CPR is high quality chest compressions. If you are unable or unwilling to do rescue breathing (“the kiss of life”) then don’t! Instead to continuous chest compressions until further medical help arrives.

These are just some Tips & Tricks

World Friendship Day / International Day Of Friendship 2020

World Friendship Day, also known as International Day of Friendship takes place on 30th July.

The original idea for a day of friendship came from Hallmark cards in the 1930’s. Originally celebrated on 2nd August, the day was largely viewed cynically by the public as a money making exercise, sales of friendship day cards did not take off in Europe and by the mid-1940’s the day had faded into obscurity in the USA. The idea of a day to honour friendship was, however, adopted by a number of countries in Asia where it remained a popular custom to reserve a day for celebrating friendships and the exchange of gifts between friends.

The first World Friendship Day was proposed for 30 July 1958 by the World Friendship Crusade, an international civil organisation that campaigns to foster a culture of peace through friendship. Many years later, in 2011, the 30th July was declared as the International Day of Friendship by the General Assembly of United Nations.

With the growing popularity of social media throughout the world, there has been an increase in celebrating World Friendship day and International Day of Friendship online as well as with community activities in local communities aimed at bringing those of different backgrounds together.

How to celebrate Friendship Day

There are no set rules on how to celebrate Friendship Day. The beauty of all friendships, whether tried and tested or new and burgeoning, is that each one is unique from the last. This gives you and your best buddies a blank slate to do whatever you want to do, within reason, of course, and celebrate it however you see fit, and how to honour the memories you have made together.

Taking a trip together to celebrate is an excellent way to make the day all about each other. You can visit places that mean something to you, whether that’s the beach where you first met or the scene of your most infamous exploits. Or, you can go to that one place where you promised each other you’d always go.

With so many people living such busy lives, however, not everyone can plan a big day out for each other. But that’s what makes Friendship Day such a wonderful occasion. Best friends understand that life often gets in the way, so they won’t be disappointed if there’s no colossal celebration in their honour. Maybe next year, though?

Just a phone call checking in on them could morph into an hours-long conversation discussing life, the universe, and everything in between. For long-lost friends, this is a great way to catch up and spill all the secrets that don’t end up on social media. For friends who still keep in regular contact, it’s always a great way to learn about what each other had for lunch.

Likewise, celebrating Friendship Day at school is easy, too. Students can write essays about what friendships mean to them, and why they consider their friends to be their best. Similarly, art, poetry, and other avenues are all ways to get kids thinking about what friendship is.

So, today more than any other day is the chance to let all your besties, whether near or far, know how much you care for and appreciate them. It’s the chance to reach out to old friends, new friends, and even those you see every day of the week, and do something that celebrates what your friendship means to you.

World Youth Skills Day 15th July 2020

Young people are almost three times more likely to be unemployed than adults and continuously exposed to lower quality of jobs, greater labor market inequalities, and longer and more insecure school-to-work transitions. In addition, women are more likely to be underemployed and under-paid, and to undertake part-time jobs or work under temporary contracts.

Here at Ajuda Training Academy we provide many different training courses including First Aid, Health and Safety, Manual Handling, Mental Health First Aid and Employability Skills.

All of these courses are a great way to learn life saving skills that, as long as you keep your training up top date, will stay with you throughout your whole life.

This year’s theme is ‘learning to learn for life and work’.

The campaign aims to reduce unemployment among young people across the globe and highlight how their lives have changed since learning a new skill.

International Nurses Day 2020

May 12th is International Day of the Nurse and the 200th anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale, Ajuda joins hundreds of organisations worldwide to highlight the importance of nurses in the healthcare continuum and say a massive thank you for all the work they do on a day to day basis.

Historically, as well as today, nurses are at the forefront of fighting epidemics and pandemics –  providing high quality and respectful treatment and care. They are often the first and sometimes the only health professional that people see and the quality of their initial assessment, care and treatment is vital.

We hope that as many people as possible from around the world will take part in this global moment of reflection by sharing their stories, photos and tributes on social media using the hashtag #RememberHealthHeroes. Tonight at 20.30 people all around the world will world will light a candle or even use the light on their mobile phones, to show respect for the health workers lost to this pandemic.

Celebrate VE Day at Home with your Family in Lockdown

VE Day is Friday 8th May – Let's celebrate at home with family while self-isolating?

This year, VE Day will coincide with the early May Day bank holiday, making it the perfect time to get together with your household for a celebration. The UK may be in lockdown due to the coronavirus outbreak, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still have a weekend of celebrations to mark this special moment in history.

Why do we celebrate VE Day?

VE Day marked the end of World War 2 – and in turn, the end of Adolf Hitler’s reign. As such, it was a cause for celebration all over the world. At 3pm that day, Prime Minister Winston Churchill told the nation that the war was over. In London, a crowd of 50,000 celebrated the momentous event in Piccadilly Circus, cheering and waving flags in the street. This year is particularly poignant, given that it’s the 75th anniversary of VE Day.

Join The Nation in a two minute silence

At 11am, a national two-minute silence will be held to remember the sacrifice of those who fought in the war.

Toast to the Heroes

At 3pm, Britons are being invited to take to their doorsteps to raise a glass, cheer and clap during The National Toast to the Heroes of World War Two.

Join in a National sing-along

Music helped to keep morale high in wartime and we could all use a little boost ourselves in these times of uncertainty.

Dame Vera Lynn will lead us in a nationwide sing-along to wartime classic We'll Meet Again on Friday night.

The 103-year-old singer will perform from a window at her Sussex home just after 9pm, following the Queen's special address to the nation.

Let's all join her and lift the spirits of the nation

VE Day 75: The People's Celebration airs on BBC One from 8pm.

3 Reasons why it’s important to renew your training qualifications

Qualification renewal is crucial, whether it is for first aid, fire safety, or food hygiene, not only to keep your qualifications up to date but your knowledge too. You know how to get a certificate, but did you know it’s important to keep it current?

Why is it important to renew?

1. The guidelines and procedures can change

Each year, new medical advancements are made, guidelines are revisited and procedures can be updated or amended. To stay on top of all changes, regular training renewal is vital. You don’t want to perform a previous version of a procedure if there is a newer, more effective version available, especially when it comes to life-saving procedures

2. To continually refresh skills and knowledge

Even if only a few details have changed since you last did a training course, if you’re not performing first aid and CPR on a regular basis you’re likely to start to forget little things.

Keep your skills and knowledge refreshed and stay in practice by renewing within the recommended three-year time frame for first aid or every 12 months for the CPR component.

3. Stay confident

It’s one thing to know the techniques, but it’s another to have the confidence to apply them when the time comes. Regular training ensures that you will always have the confidence (along with those life-saving skills) to act quickly and effectively when faced with a potentially stressful medical situation.

Wutan Coronavirus outbreak – keep safe and stop the spread!

Wutan Coronavirus has hit the headlines in the past few weeks, and has caused devastating effects in areas of China such as Wutan which has been hit the hardest with this new and deadly virus strain.

Yesterday, the World Health Organisation (WHO) declared the Coronavirus as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern at level 4 – meaning that the worldwide public have been warned against travelling to China, and those in affected Chinese areas are stranded in the infectious conditions. Reports today claim that two people in the UK are now affected by the virus.

In the past week there have been traces of the virus found in over 18 countries among 98 people – meaning that this deadly virus has the potential to travel all over the world and cause a devastating effect across the entire globe.

The most dangerous thing about global viruses is their ability to spread like wildfire – and it is important for us to play our part in minimising the devastating effects of this disease in its early stages.

The best course of action for the average person is simply to avoid spreading the disease further, as Coronavirus is transmitted via respiratory droplets which are produced when a person coughs or sneezes.

We have a variety of items on our Ajuda shop which are designed to limit the transmission of these types of viruses – which are easy to order and high quality for a reasonable price. Please note all orders will include VAT, and there’s also a £10 postage charge.

Time to change, Time To Talk day 2020

Nowadays, around 1 in 4 people experience mental health problems. That is a good enough reason to end the stigma around it. Join us and support Time To Talk Day on 6th February 2020. Help us fight the discrimination of people touched by mental illness!

What it is all about?

This day was created to raise awareness about the mental health problems and help to end the stigma around this topic. Many people claim that that stigma and discrimination are as damaging, or more damaging, than the symptoms of their mental health problem. This year we use ‘Would you rather?’ game to spread the importance of conversations about the mental health. By getting people talk about it we can help break down stereotypes connected with the issue that affects us all. This day is a perfect opportunity to gather around your family and friends and encourage them to talk about their problems.

How can you help?

Did you ever think that chatting with a person who suffers from a mental illness can actually save a life? If not, it is time for you to do something about it because you can change someone’s life with a short conversation. Just be there for them. Let them talk and you just listen to them.

It is often the thing that they need the most to feel valued and cared about. They need you to listen to them and not to rush them. Let them finish. Then ask some additional question to better understand how they are feeling. Help them get rid off the burden they were carrying for this whole time.

After having a conversation, try to signpost them to the closest organisation which can help them. There are some examples of support services:

Ajuda for mental health

The topic of mental health is extremally important for our company as we focus on educating people to save lives. You can save lives not only by helping people with their physical problems but most importantly you can save lives by talking with people and listening to them. This way you can help them with more complicated psychological issues.

To highlight the importance of the mental health and to increase the awareness about this topic we created a separate full-day event. Mental Health & Wellbeing Show is taking place on 21st of May 2020 in Cardiff City Stadium. This is the show dedicated to mental health and aiming to promote positive mental health through open conversation, promoting awareness and sharing real-life experiences. Our seminar speakers focus on topics such as coping with mental illness, ways to promote positive mental health, and how to support people around you who are suffering with ill mental health. Apart from the seminars, there will also be an open exhibition with over 60 charities, organisations and companies promoting their helpful resources, services and initiatives all focused on supporting mental health and wellbeing.

Find out more about the event on our website: https://www.mhwshow.co.uk/

Make a change and contribute to Time To Talk Day. Help your family and friends and think about our show. Maybe it is a good occasion to buy them a ticket for one of our seminars?
